Enhancing Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in Zuni Public Schools

The Challenge:

The Zuni Public Schools faced significant health challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the closure of the area and heightened concerns about indoor air quality. The impact of the virus on Native American communities was profound, with many losing loved ones and the community implementing strict measures to protect its residents. Given the importance of maintaining safe indoor environments for students and staff, there was an urgent need to improve air quality in educational settings.

Traditional floor-mounted air purifiers posed several issues: they required manual operation, had limited air circulation near the floor, and could be easily disrupted by students.

The Solution:

To address these challenges, the Zuni Public Schools decided to install the VIDASHIELD UV24 Air Purification System, integrated within the ceiling, offering ease of use and enhanced air quality. This solution provided several benefits:

The VIDASHIELD in-ceiling component is discreetly installed, keeping it out of reach of children, which provides peace of mind and allows for a worry-free environment.

Addressing Contamination at the Source
Viruses and bacteria are introduced by people after the central HVAC system delivers treated air. The VIDASHIELD UV24 Air Purification system treats this contamination at the source and immediately returns clean air back into the space.

Automatic Operation
The ceiling-mounted units turned on automatically with the lights, eliminating the need for manual activation. This ensured consistent air purification without reliance on staff or students.

Improved Air Quality
The system effectively draws air upward and away from occupants, ensuring a continuous circulation of clean air that returns to breathing height for optimal comfort and health.

User-Friendly Maintenance
The design of the units allowed for easy access to filters and bulbs, simplifying routine maintenance. This meant that staff could quickly change filters and perform upkeep without extensive training.

Community Reassurance
The visibility of these units reassured parents and staff about the measures taken to protect indoor air quality, fostering a sense of safety for both students and educators.

Future Expansion
With plans to consolidate three schools into one facility by February 2027, the district intends to equip the new building with the same air purification technology, further enhancing the health and safety of the learning environment.

By implementing these ceiling-mounted air purifiers, the Zuni Public Schools not only addressed immediate health concerns but also set a foundation for long-term air quality management in their educational spaces.
