Converting miles of traditional studs and soffits to drywall grid framing seemed like a daunting process until Platinum Drywall began using the Drywall Grid System from Armstrong Ceiling Solutions. We removed the intimidation factor for the contractor and the construction crew during this soffit installation project. Construction efficiencies in improved safety and production were realized for the company, as well as the savings to their bottom line.

The job required fewer people, which was a significant positive impact on safety. Typically, they had 12 to 16 installers working on framing where this job only needed four. Once the construction crew saw first-hand the simple installation process of the drywall grid, they decided the change from traditional methods was well worth it and they now prefer to use drywall grid for every new project.

Installation Efficiencies 

Representatives from Platinum Drywall reported that the job was initially bid based on a two-person crew installing approximately 40 linear feet per day of traditional framing. They estimated installing 40 linear feet on the first day using drywall grid and installed 70, which nearly doubled their installation goal.

They further reported that they made history for their company one day by installing 240 linear feet using a four-person crew where one man prefabricated the jigs, and three others installed the framing. The panel pre-fabrication time was significantly less than traditional track and stud methods according to Mike Young, Ceiling Technician with 24 panels constructed in three short hours as opposed to at least triple the time.

The work crews from Platinum Drywall were highly impressed with the strength and light-weight characteristics of the framing grid material as well as the ease of use and elimination of cracking risk in transition areas.
